growing in our daily walk with Christ

YANCEY’S BIBLE STUDY ARTICLES

Welcome to Bible Study and Fellowship, where we grow in our walk with Christ. As we delve into our Bible Study Articles, we explore the significance that’s been placed on a crucifix and cross. While the crucifix has been associated with the remembrance of the LAMB of GODS’ crucifixion, it’s important to note that ALMIGHTY GOD did not command us to use any image or likeness in our worship of HIM whether cross or crucifix. In staying true to The Lord’s commandments, we strive to deepen our connection to Him and embrace the beauty of our faith. Let’s embark on this spiritual journey together, discovering new insights and strengthening our understanding of the Scriptures.

THE CROSS IS NOT GODLY

WHAT ELSE DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT PROMOTING, DISPLAYING OR WEARING A CROSS OR CRUCIFIX?

The Bible forbids the use of physical icons to worship and represent the true God. The Second Commandment plainly states: “You shall not make for yourself any carved image” (Exodus 20:4). The LORD did not intend for HIS people to use physical icons, pictures or images to represent Him.

The crucifix (an assumed image of a dead or dying Christ on a cross) certainly fits into the category of a cross. Even though the stated intent is for use as a remembrance of the crucifixion, ALMIGHTY GOD never commanded us to do so. In truth, The LORD has commanded HIS children not to use any image or likeness in our worship of Him.

It symbolizes a curse and death, pre-dating Christianity. It started long ago in Babylon. It can be traced back to be a symbol of Tammuz, a Sumerian or Babylonian sun-god. That alone should draw caution. A symbol of another worshipped idol being used to identify with the LAMB of GOD. Over the last 2000 years people have adopted the practice of displaying crosses as a way of symbolizing our Faith in Yeshua (Hebrew) Jesus (Greek). Many have been tricked by satan to honor, revere, respect and worship a man-made symbol of tradition that blasphemes ALMIGHTY GODS’ NAME and commands to avoid such symbols. According to the Scriptures, HE doesn’t even want them in our homes.

A cross is not GODLY

The second commandment forbids the use of any physical representation of something used in the worship of God. It prohibits anything that tries to represent divinity in a physical way, such as pictures or statues. The crucifix (an abominable image of a dead or dying CHRIST) certainly fits into this category.

In his book The Two Babylons, Alexander Hislop summarizes the universality of the cross by saying that “there is hardly a pagan tribe where the cross has not been found.” The cross did not even become associated with nominal Christianity until the time of Constantine, centuries after the crucifixion. And while the scriptures refer to the cross metaphorically, the apostolic church never made use of it in a physical way.

Cross pagan origins

17 PAGAN SYMBOL TYPES OF A "CROSS"

Did you notice the “swatiska“? In the Zoroastrian religion of Persia, the swastika was a symbol of the revolving sun, infinity, or continuing creation. It is one of the most common symbols on Mesopotamian coins. The icon has been of spiritual significance to Indian religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Swastika is even a girl’s name in certain parts of India. In Buddhism, known as the manji in Japanese, the emblem signifies the Buddha’s footsteps. To it means a spiritual teacher.

Cross Is not GODLY

In addition to the pagan origins of a cross, the question is still unresolved exactly what Jesus died on. The Greek word translated as “cross” is stauros, meaning a stake or upright pole. It may have had a cross-beam on it, or it may have simply been a long piece of wood, thick enough to bear the weight of a human body. Adding to the mystery are four scriptures declaring that Jesus was hung on a tree (Acts 5:30; 10:39; 13:29; I Peter 2:24), and the Greek indicates a green, living tree rather than a stauros of dead wood. Because of this, one possibility is that the stauros of Jesus was just the crossbeam, which was attached to a living tree.

Death on a tree probably originated with the Assyrians and Babylonians. It was used systematically by the Persians in the 6th century BC. A cross has long been used as a religious symbol before the crucifixion of Jesus. The Romans used these “trees” to kill people long before Yeshua died on one. In ancient times, the tree served as the ultimate symbol of shame and disgrace for the most notorious criminals.

It was utilized as a public spectacle to serve as a deterrent for potential wrongdoers. Upon careful examination, it becomes evident that several beliefs surrounding a cross have no basis in the Bible. Nowhere in the LORDS’ WORD is there any account indicating Jesus’s disciples wore a symbol representing HIS sacrificial death. There’s certainly NO commandment given by CHRIST to do so. Some peolpe use Mark 8:34 out of context to justify wearing a cross or crucifix having one at home.

Cross Is Not GODLY

THE LORD MAKES IT CLEAR WHAT A CROSS OR TREE REPRESENTS

Deuteronomy 21:22,23
22 “And if a man has committed a crime punishable by death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23 his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God. You shall not defile your land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance.

1 Peter 2:23-24
23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

Deuteronomy 4:16-19
Beware lest you act corruptly by making a carved image for yourselves, in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth.

Deuteronomy 27:15
“‘Cursed be the man who makes a carved or cast metal image, an abomination to the Lord, a thing made by the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen.’

Deuteronomy 7:25
The carved images of their gods you shall burn with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God.

Romans 1
22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

The LORD makes it clear HIS judgment on idolatry. There are many more examples in ALMIGHTY GODS’ WORD confirming why promoting, displaying or wearing a cross or crucifix is a blasphemous abomination and sin against GOD the FATHER, GOD the SON and GOD the HOLY SPIRIT!

A cross or crucifix is a detestable thing representing wrath and judgment. It is one of the BIGGEST lies and deceptions of satan and evil men. satan is the NUMBER ENEMY of CHRIST JESUS. He likes nothing better than keeping mankind’s eyes on the idolatrous cross, crucifix of a dead or dying CHRIST of a tree. Let’s put it another way, for hundreds of years people have worn and wear symbols of a curse. When was the last time you’ve seen anyone wearing a symbol of the CURE? What is that cure? YESHUA’S (Hebrew) JESUS (Greek) glorius RESURRECTION from the grave!

WHERE ARE THE NECKLACES AND CARVED IMAGES OF THE EMPTY TOMB?

1 Peter 1
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

John 11
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise from the dead.” 24 Martha *said to Him, “I know that he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies,

Romans 8:11
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Luke 24:1-7
24 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in gleaming clothing; 5 and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why are you seeking the living One among the dead? 6 He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, 7 saying that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise from the dead.

Romans 8:11
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.

Now we see why satan and his followers want to keep people in darkness, error and religious bondage.
