TEXT WITHOUT CONTEXT IS PRETEXT

SUMMARY

How many times have you heard someone say, “Everyone has their own interpretation” on what the WORD of GOD means. Have you said that yourself? The question is, does ALMIGHTY GOD intend for man to have different interpretations of HIS WORDS’ meaning? A true interpretation of the LORDS WORD involves the confidence in KNOWING what the LORD said and what HE meant when HE said it. The importance of context in light of true Biblical interpretation is absolutely essential. TEXT WITHOUT CONTEXT is always PRETEXT. The only condition which enables anyone to know or discern the LORDS WORD or WILL requires the indwelling of the HOLY SPIRIT.

In John 14:16-18 Jesus tells HIS followers, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” The world here means those who are not saved or children of GOD. According to 1 Corinthians 2 there is worldy wisdom and GODLY wisdom and only GODLY wisdom is TRUE wisdom. Therefore, spiritual truth or interpretation of the LORDS WORD can’t be discerned by worldy or natural means.

The HOLY SPIRIT “bears witness” to the identity of the SON of GOD who is also the son of man. John 15:27 speaks to “bear witness” about Christ in the hearts and minds of believers. The HOLY SPIRIT guides us towards the truth, which is CHRIST JESUS (John 14:6). Therefore, the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ are sent by God the Father (John 8:42; 14:26). John 16:13-14, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” proves there’s NO correct interpretation of ALMIGHTY GODS’ WORD if the HOLY SPIRIT is not present in the heart of the hearer. Indeed the HOLY SPIRIT is called the “SPIRIT of TRUTH” that enables the child of GOD to discern truth from religous tradition, lying hypocrisy and error. 1 John 4:6 and 1 John 5:6.
