THE TRUTH ABOUT CHRISTMAS

.

IS CHRISTMAS A PAGAN FESTIVAL DAY?

Pagan, or non Biblical traditions show up in this much celebrated and revered winter festival. This is a consequence of early religious people merging Jesus’ birth with pre-existing mid winter festivals. Since then, Christmas traditions have warped over time, arriving at their current state a little more than a century ago. In context by true interpretation of scripture there’s no precept, principle or promise associated with celebrating The LORD’S birth. The WORD of ALMIGHTY GOD does not have any direct or explicit command that says, “You will not celebrate MY birth.” However, the LORD said “ You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.  But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.  God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”” John 4:22-24.

Notice that Israel, in the Bible, was warned not to adopt or accept the ways pagan nations use to worship false deities and apply them to worship of the true living God. UnGodly pagan customs are not made righteous or acceptable by associating or merging them with a HOLY and ETERNAL GOD! Deuteronomy 12:29-31. One example of the LORDS judgment about humans celebrating false (pagan) customs and worship for festivals like Christmas is found in Exodus 32.

God called Moses up the mount of Sinai to receive HIS Commandments. The children of Israel must wait at the foot of the mountain for him to return. As time passes, the Israelites grow restless. When Aaron, the High Priest, sees this he tells the people to bring him their jewelry so that he can melt it down and make them an idol shaped like a calf for them to worship.

The ALMIGHTYS’ response to Israel using pagan customs to worship him similar to the mass of Christ (Christmas) was swift or imminent. He did not accept Israel’s blasphemous worship through the golden calf even though Aaron the High Priest was involved. HIS anger was kindled toward the people and HE was prepared to destroy them. Their heart attitude reflected in the conduct with this false worship justified HIS righteous judgment,(Exodus 32:4 – 5, 7, 10)!

Moses pleaded with the LORD not to blot them out, (verses 11 – 14). Man’s religious traditions and doctrines of false worship seeking to replace the LORD are unacceptable to HIM. ALMIGHTY GOD never compromises HIS HOLY and RIGHTEOUS character and sovereignty. Isaiah 48:10-12, “Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another. The Lord’s Call to Israel “Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I called! I am he; I am the first, and I am the last.”

Pagan or un-Biblical worship practices do not honor the true LIVING GOD regardless of how sincere or faithful. This same principle of truth applies to the customs used in festival celebrations like Christmas and Easter. In another point of truth the word “Christmas” is not found anywhere in scripture. The Hebrew word for holy is “qodesh”. It means “apartness, set-apartness, separateness, sacredness”. It may also be defined as “otherness, transcendent and totally other”. ALMIGHTY GOD is infinitely superior to HIS creation including mankind.

Holy has the idea of heaviness or weight of glory. In the New Testament Greek, the word for holy is “hagios” and means set apart, reverend, sacred, and worthy of veneration.” This word can ONLY be the LORD because God Himself is totally other, separate, sacred, transcendent, reverend, and set apart from every created thing. Associating the name “holiday” which means HOLY DAY to a doctrine of man certainly dishonors the NAME of ALMIGHTY GOD. If an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal and self existent GOD wanted HIS birth as man to be worshiped, wouldn’t HE command it? Finally, which is important, focusing on when Christ was born or WHY Christ was born?

SUMMARY

“Christmas” is a festival invented by man, not by ALMIGHTY GOD. Nowhere in the Bible are believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob required or commanded to celebrate the birth of Christ Yeshua (Hebrew) Jesus (Greek).

December 25th was celebrated in ancient days as the birthday of the unconquerable sun god. Some of his other names are Tammuz, Mithra, Saturn, Adonis and Baal. These were celebrated and worshiped centuries before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem.

The early or 1st century Christian saints did not celebrate “Christmas”.

In order to win converts the Roman catholic institution centuries after the apostolic era attempted to displace the ancient pagan winter festival of the sun god with another man-made tradition, calling it “Christmas” or the “mass of Christ”.

True Biblical scholars have known these truths for centuries.

The festival of “Christmas” is a mixture of ancient pagan traditions invented by man, and found nowhere in the Bible. Why should we think a Holy and Righteous eternal GOD honours or accepts such worship? The LORD knows our reasons for observing anything not authorized by HIM. Each of us has to decide. Reading Deuteronomy 12:30-32 and Mark 7:6-9 are some scriptures for guidance. Finally, the Son of man said to the woman at the well, “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:22-24. While there is no command by the LORD to celebrate or memorialize the Son of Man’s birth, there’s no command not to. The issue is and will always be according to John 4:23.
