growing in our daily walk with Christ

WORD FOR THE WEEK

WHAT “CHURCH” DO YOU GO TO?

Nowhere in the New Testament or the Bible as a whole is there a precept, principle or promise given by the LORD encouraging people to travel to a specific destination or building for worship. The lone exception is the commandment given to Israel concerning the temple in Jerusalem. Now there’s no precept, principle or promise in scripture I’ve seen precluding us from gathering at specific places for the Church to meet.

Again, the key is the correct definition of “church” as Christ Jesus defined it in Matthew 16:17 -19, And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” He wasn’t talking about a wood, marble, brick or mortar structure. But, every living breathing man, woman and child accepting by faith the free gift of salvation thru the LORDS’ death, burial and glorious resurrection! Nor was the SON of man claiming Peter was “the ROCK”. Jesus was obviously speaking of HIMSELF.

So why has the church over the centuries been reduced, perverted, subverted into lifeless buildings and structures around the world? How about this among many other passages of scripture, 2 Peter 2:1-3…

False Prophets and Teachers
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
